Our Story

Wildpaws Co. was born from adventure, resilience, and two very special dogs named Maze and Nyx.

The Woman Behind the Brand

I grew up in Muskoka, Ontario, at a summer resort owned by my parents. From an early age, I learned the value of hard work — pulling 16-hour days from the May long weekend through Thanksgiving. But when I wasn't working, I was on the water, water skiing and soaking up every moment of that beautiful Canadian wilderness. The forest and the lake were my whole world.

My parents, knowing I needed to see more of that world, sent me backpacking through Europe at 19. I traveled through 15 countries and came home forever changed — with a crash course in history, culture, and street smarts that I still carry with me today.

Back home, I pursued education with the same determination I'd always had. I entered into the legal world.  I became a paralegal — where I also met my husband, Mike, my very own Prince Charming and we opened our own firm.  It is a life I am incredibly proud of.

Enter: Maze

Here's something you might not expect from a pet brand founder — I was scared of dogs. Genuinely scared. It took years before I was ready to even consider getting one.

Then one day, an ad popped up on my phone. A red fox lab puppy with the sweetest face I had ever seen. Her name was Maze. She is the most gentle, princess-like dog you will ever meet, and I fell completely in love.

My husband still jokes: "Just ask her if she likes dogs." And I always say: "Generally, no — but I love our dogs."

And Then There Was Nyx

When Maze was about two years old, fate stepped in again. Our friend Karen got a puppy from the same breeder — and in the same litter was a little black lab named Ms. Pink. She was spoken for, so we didn't think twice about her. But Mike mentioned offhandedly that if we ever got a black lab, he'd name her Nyx — after the Goddess of Darkness.

Weeks later, the breeder called. Ms. Pink's family had backed out. It was two weeks before Christmas. Maze was her actual aunt. Karen had her real sister. And how do you say no to that face?

Our kids came home from school to find a collar hanging on the Christmas tree with a name tag that read: Nyx. They were more shocked than any of us.

Nyx is the funniest, most joyful creature alive. She spins in circles when she's excited. When she's bored, she balances bones on Maze's back. She thinks every single minute is the best thing that has ever happened.

Why Wildpaws Co.?

With two dogs we adore, we wanted to take them everywhere — hiking, camping, exploring. We started getting creative with our adventures and wanted to share them with other dog-loving families. A blog was born. And then, naturally, so was Wildpaws Co.

We created this brand to offer products that complement the adventures you share with your dogs — the trails, the campsites, the spontaneous detours, and the quiet moments in nature. Everything we carry is chosen with Maze, Nyx, and dogs like them in mind.

Because the best adventures are the ones you share with your whole pack. 🐾
